There are already a lot of sports today that requires you to use a vast amount of air in order to be successful. There are ways to increase the size of your lungs, there are also several ways to increase the amount of air taken in by your lungs and how efficient they capture oxygen. Practice the exercises below and you are guaranteed that you will be able to increase your lung capacity.

One of the tricks is breathing steadily and deeply. Exhale completely and slowly. This will allow you to inhale more air on your next breath. Keep your abdominal muscles relaxed to allow your diaphragm to descend. This will make more room around your lungs and allows air to fill.

To give your body the room to relax, you probably want to fill your lungs to about 80 to 85 percent capacity so inhale a deep breath. If you fill your lungs to the full capacity, your muscles will tighten up and you will feel very uncomfortable.

Scientists have figured out that splashing water on your face while holding your breath accelerates bradycardia or the slowing of the heart rate. Use a cold water but not icy. Icy water will trigger another reflex in your body that causes you to hyperventilate. Hyperventilation will hurt your ability to hold your breath for a long time.

You could try meditating or closing your eyes. The less energy you use up, the longer your body will be able to hold its breath. You can also try some simple breathing exercises where you can do this anywhere and at any given situation.

While walking or doing your chores, give it a spare second to practice blowing balloons. It is a good method to increase your lung capacity.
Tape a long and light slip of paper or tissue to the sip of your nose. By blowing this as long as possible, you are also increasing your lung capacity.
While driving, sitting, or watching TV, breathe in for 2 to 20 seconds, breathe out for 10 to 20 seconds, and slowly increase the rate.

Physical Exercises

When you exercise in water, it will add an element of resistance training to your regimen. This makes for a good lung workout. To supply enough oxygen, your body will have to work overtime.

Involve yourself in extreme cardiovascular activities. For at least 30 minutes, push your body to exhaustion so that your lungs are working hard. You could try aerobics, cycling, running, or swimming.

Working out at higher elevations is a sure way to boost your lung strength. But be careful not to train too hard on higher elevations as you could develop altitude sickness.

Long-Term Exercises

Get some resistance training on your routine and watch as your lung capacity increases. Take a deep breath through your nose and breathe out through your mouth with your lips slightly opened.

Your brain will always look after your body and is averse to stretching the body’s limits. But your body can do more amazing things when the brain is persuaded that everything will be okay. So breathe in more than your brain thinks you can.

Playing a wind instrument is another great way to give your lungs the regular workout it needed while you can have fun doing it and making music.
